Key Points
Main provisions of the bill
Makes staging a collision with a commercial truck a federal crime punishable by up to 20 years in prison
Requires plaintiffs in lawsuits over commercial vehicle accidents to disclose if any other companies are financing their case
Gives federal courts more jurisdiction over lawsuits involving commercial vehicle accidents where damages exceed $5 million
How This Impacts Americans
Potential effects on citizens and communities
This bill would primarily impact two groups - people who intentionally cause collisions with commercial trucks, and plaintiffs in lawsuits over commercial vehicle accidents. If enacted, it could deter people from staging dangerous accidents, and it could make it harder for plaintiffs to keep details about their legal financing private. This could affect both individual accident victims and the companies involved in their cases.
